I’m going to be a Dad!

December 30th, 2009

When Maureen came into the room, smiled, and started to cry – I immediately knew that I was going to be a father.

Strangely, my first thought wasn’t fear or anxiety (that came later). My first thought was a mixture of excitement and hope. Yes, hope. At first I wasn’t sure what this was about. I just felt hopeful. I desperately wanted the baby to be safe, secure, and healthy. I also wanted Maureen to feel comfortable and warm. This feeling/thought was immediate. Within 10 seconds a month of thoughts ran through my head.

It’s been 28 weeks now. Jesus, time goes by fast. Maureen and I are having a fairly successful pregnancy. Granted, she’s doing most of the work… As was expected, there have been a couple minor ups, downs, and boring parts. What wasn’t expected is the incredible feeling of anticipation. It’s as if one rolled all major holidays into one big day – and we just have to sit and wait for it…

I’m working on Avery’s room now – check back later for details and a load of photos.

Hi Joe! Heard through the Geospiza grapevine that you are expecting. Many congratulations to you and Maureen. I now have two (Jack and Thomas)! Keep in touch. Methylgrace [at] yahoo
